Tree Carvings

When Hurricane Ike struck in 2008, many of the old trees were destroyed.
Some were broken by the high winds and others killed by the salt water surge.
Residents and artists went to work on the resulting stumps and created some funny, some beautiful, and some amazing sculptures.

This pelican is facing the house.

This carving is in the playground of a school.

Dogs are a popular theme.

The cranes are the most intricate and life-like carving.

Of course dolphins are a popular figure. You see them so often in the bay.
