Le Claire Iowa

The Mississippi River at Le Claire Iowa, in the Quad Cities area.

Le Claire is a lovely small town crowded up to the river. This looks east at Illinois. The old downtown area is Cody Street, named after Buffalo Bill Cody. Buffalo Bill was born in Scott County and spent part of his childhood here. He may have been the most famous citizen until

.

The American Pickers!
Yep; Le Claire, Iowa is home to Antique Archaeology - the shop featured on the History Channel's show about Mike & Frank and their search for valuable stuff in barns and attics all over the country.

Mike and Frank weren't here but in Nashville readying another shop. Danielle wasn't there either but I'm not privy as to her location. Another heavily tattooed young lady was standing in for her.

There were items seen on the show, like the Laurel and Hardy heads.

And the Phillip Morris redcap statue that waves.

And old bicycles.

We had some problems finding the place.

If you watch the show you know the shop is in a rural setting, and the address just didn't add up. We drove down the street both directions and decided the Garmin was confused. Occasionally we are told to turn the wrong way etc. and figured this was another evil trick by the technology demons. Finally we went to the Visitor Center for directions. They assured us the address was correct, everyone has problems finding the place, and to drive down the alley behind the gas station!?

So much for a rural setting. Not only is the place in an alley, it's tiny.

Really tiny.

It looks like it might have been an old filling station with a one bay garage.

Most of the "office" area is filled with t-shirts and baseball caps for sale.
There are very few antiques present, but there's no room for any.

This is making me question how we perceive things on TV.
How can things look so much bigger on a screen that is so much smaller than life-size?

Is it all camera angles?

Does Pamela Anderson wear a 34-B?
